A childhood favorite is making a come back!

Ants on the Log!

These babies are so easy to make and are the perfect on-the-go, healthy snack.

How to make em'

1) Wash the dirt off the celery stalks!
2) Chop them into a few pieces per stalk.
3) Choose between organic peanut, cashew, or almond butter and spread it.
4) Then choose your ants (Rasins) wisely.

These are the brands we used :)

If you are doing this diet and are serious about it or just want to eat healthy, check this out...

Say your going to a party, and you have to bring a dish.

Bring out the ANTS ON A LOG (Fancy Style)

Take a nice looking plate of delicious, fancy Ants on a Log.
And maybe you give them a different name like:
"La Celery con Rasins"
or something else cooler...

Things are getting PHYSICAL.

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday :)

My mom has started physical and occupational therapy and I came along to a session last Wednesday.

I thought it was incredible. The physical therapist had my mom on different machines, on a stretching table, and using props to gain strength in her legs and core.

We found out that the left side of her body is less responsive and more numb than the right. We are hoping that along with a good diet that can change.

The occupational (hand) therapist gave us some workable putty and showed us SEVERAL different exercises using it. My mom's muscles in her hands are very weak and numb causing her to drop things often.

Using this putty each day will help regain the lost muscle and the diet will help repair the lost myelin around the nerves that is creating the numbness.

Several small tests were done to determine the specific needs of my mom, but overall I think that everything done was necessary to make progress.

I am so hopeful that with good therapy and good eats, something great will happen.

Next post is going to be about our FAVORITE snack, stay tuned and have a lovely day :)

Thanks for following!

Why do you follow?

Hello All!

I am both excited and blessed to have people showing interest in something I feel so strongly about.

I want to know... why you are following?

How do you relate to this story?
Please feel free to post on Facebook or send me and my mom an email at:

tlynnwisnieski@gmail.com

A friend told me she sent this blog to another one of her Facebook friends.
Someone in her family who had MS, passed away. Because of that she is very passionate about healthy eating and how it can cure a disease.

Another thing people have to think about is their chances of inheriting a disease. Because my mom was diagnosed before she gave birth to me and my brother, there is always a chance we could develop MS.

People think that something will NEVER happen to them, and that they will be fine.

That is never true.

People are at risk everyday, but there is one thing that we can do to better our health and that’s eating clean (or even better tan we do now). The simple effects of eating can do wonders.

My mom and I are not only supporting each other but we’re stopping her disease and trying to prevent anything that could happen to me as well.

So find your support system,
find your reasons,
and feed your body what it needs.

That’s it. No excuses.

Now go make a smoothie.

Hummus & Seaweed

Hello All!

We made this recipe for hummus and it was amazing!

It was on the back of "Once Again Organic Tahini".
Tahini is ground up sesame seeds. Sesame seeds helps
with mood, impulsivity, and chronic pain in MS.

This brand has been seen at Meijers and Kroger.
Try it!

1/3 cup Once Again Tahini
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup lemon or lime juice
2-3 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley or lemon balm
A pinch of Paprika
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups cooked or canned chick peas, drained
Put ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Yields about 3 cups.

The blend made a whole lot of hummus that lasted a couple weeks.

We used Seaweed Rice crackers from WHOLE FOODS to dip!
Seaweed helps provide support to make myelin and the excretion of toxins.

Hummus is also great when you dip veggies in it.
(Especially carrots)

EAT UP!

WE ARE SEEING PROGRESS!

First of all...

I have not wrote a post in a week...tisk, tisk.

BUT ALOT HAS HAPPENED!

Laurie is doing better with the diet now and we are seeing some RESULTS people! Her feet have always been swollen to the point where she could not fit into her shoes.

After sticking to the "Minding My Mitochondria" diet for 3 weeks, both her feet have reduced in swelling and look like normal healthy feet!

Can you believe that!? (picture to come!)

Secondly...

Because of the debilitating symptoms of MS like stiffness, and loss of muscle control, it can be hard to make it to the bathroom sometimes. "Having to go" can pop out of nowhere and cause problems.

Since my mom has cut coffee out of her daily routine, she has not had a single accident. She also practices a deep breathing, tai-chi technique that has helped with her control.

It's the little steps that will turn into BIG steps to beat this stupid disease!

On another note...I would like to welcome my new little cousin into the world :)
We love you Joey Rivard! Your Aunty Laurie can't wait to run around with you! (adding that to our goal list!)

Till tomorrow, Keep S'Myelin everyone.

P.S.
Myelin is the protective coating around your nerves. MS strips that stuff off...
So keep S'MYELIN for goodness sakes! #eatwell

What's in that?

What's in that?

That is the question I've been getting as people see me with a glass full of green/brown juice.

It's a smoothie, packed with a ton of nutrients!

I just took what I had in my fridge and mixed it up! Now that's a lot of food.
I only put a half an orange into the mix. You can also make a large amount, store some in the fridge and have it later on in the day.

No excuses.

Throw some natural /organic / awesomeness into a blender/ Magic Bullet / food processor and be healthy!

(So good, can't even taste the spinach, even though spinach tastes amazing.)

Get Blending!

And if you need a pick-me-up, do yourself a favor and watch the Kid President.

A Little Something Sweet

Yes, that's right.

Most of the world, or at least America, has a bit of a sweet tooth.

Instead of asking Micky'D to spin you a Mcflurry,
having lil Ms.Wendy whip you up a Frosty,
or begging the Dairy Queen to twist you a cone,
try something with some REAL nutrients...

I bet this will take care of that infamous, after dinner, sweet craving.

Introducing...

THE BAKED APPLE

(Recipe in "Minding My Mitochondria" by Terry L. Wahls)

Oh course, we did ours a little different, like always...

----BREAK DOWN----

OVEN:
350

APPLE:
Cut a shallow slit around any apple. Then core that sucka.

FILLING:
You need some type of nut butter (almond, cashew, peanut, but NOT tahini, that stuff is nasty but quite good in hummus). Grab some actual nuts (I used crushed almonds). Last you need some rasins and some cinnamon!

CONSTRUCTION:
After you core the apple drop in some crushed nuts, some cashew butter, raisins, and then top it off with some more cashew butter and sprinkle some cinnamon.

TIME:
45 minutes or till tender. ENJOY this succulent treat!

MOM UPDATE:

I came home on Friday unannounced to an unhappy mamma.

ME: "Momma, what's the matter?"
LAURIE: "I miss my coffee."
ME: "I found the perfect tea for you, try this (Bengal Spice)."
LAURIE: "Wow, that is good!"

With this diet, it's all about finding healthy alternatives.

Yesterday my Mom, Aunt and I had another phone conference about this Passion Project. We have some great things coming up! Stay tuned!

I started filming as well :)

And for everyone who has suggested meals, treatments, doctors and encouragement, we just want to say THANK YOU.  The more the merrier.

Hope you all had a good weekend!

Good food for MS patients

Good Saturday Morning!

Eating healthy is not the easiest  task for some, but once you know all the benefits of each bite, you won't think twice about the right decision.

This first meal is simply a ton of veggies stir fried over some brown rice with a bit of non-gluten soy sauce.

1. The thing about brown rice is that it takes forever to make, 45 minutes on the stove.

So I make about 6 servings at a time so it lasts me throughout the week.

You put the water and rice in at the same time, bring it to a boil and then cover it for 45 minutes.

2. What's with all the veggies!?
       (liste from left to right)

- Broccoli
- Yellow Squash
- Zuccini
- Green Pepper
- Red Onion

- Toma Tomato
- Radishes

3. Add some Hemp oil or Olive oil to the skillet. I add the veggies while I'm cutting them.

I start with the hardest veggie (broccoli) and work towards the softest veggie (roma tomato).

Once all the veggies have been added, I wait about 10-15 minutes with the burner on medium.

4. When their done, throw'em over the brown rice, sprinkle some soy sauce, and you're done!

WHAT DID I JUST EAT?
